Purpose: There are many Hispanic fishermen in my community that lack education regarding the importance of getting regular health care check ups, such as getting their blood pressure taken and blood sugar checked. As a result of this many of them develop health problems that could have been avoided or reduced.
Population of interest: Local community fishermen that live and work in Stock Island Fl. According to the 2023 community health survey report 44% of residents do not have a primary health care provider.
The aim: The goal is to educate the local fishermen on the importance of receiving regular health care check ups.
Objectives:
1. Provide education on the importance of prevention interventions
2. Assist residents in establishing a primary health care provider.
Evidenced based interventions:
1. Provide on site prevention interventions such as on site blood pressure checks and glucose checks.
2. Discuss the benefits of establishing a primary health care provider with the local residents and assist them with obtaining one.
3. Provide education on the importance of having a healthy life style, such as evaluating eating and exercise habits.
